Description

Walker Poplar - Populus x tristis

Bundle of 10 seedlings. Each seedling measures 12" - 24" tall. 

This hybrid poplar tree is a hardy tree suitable for shelterbelts and urban yards in the prairie. Walker Poplar is one of the fastest-growing poplar varieties available. Its low branching makes it a good choice for a first-row species able to trap snow drifts. 

Height at maturity: 82 ft 

Width at maturity: 26 ft  

Lifespan: 30 years 

Growth Rate: 3+ft/year 

Light conditions: shade - full sun 

Soil conditions: Prefers well-drained soils

In-row Spacing: 8 ft.  

Between Row Spacing: 16 ft. 

Notes: 

  • Female trees, so seeds and fluff/fuzz are produced in the spring
  • High potential to sucker 
  • Moderately susceptible to disease
  • Moderately vulnerable - periodically susceptible to low temperature damage
