RED OSIER DOGWOOD (Cornus sericea) NATIVE TO NORTH AMERICA
The Red Osier Dogwood is a hardy, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub prized for its striking red stems that provide vibrant winter interest. It spreads readily to form dense thickets, making it excellent for erosion control and naturalized plantings. Red Osier Dogwood produces clusters of white flowers in spring followed by white berries that are an important food source for birds and wildlife.
Growing Conditions:
• Highly cold-hardy
• Prefers moist, well-drained soils but tolerates wet conditions
• Thrives along streams, wetlands, and low-lying areas
• Grows best in full sun to partial shade (best stem color in full sun)
• Moderate to fast growing
• Medium shrub – 2–6 m (6–20 ft) tall with a similar spread
